Cherry Bomb

newsletter name change!

Hiii my wonderful readers. The days when I strictly sent you book recommendations have been long behind us. I hope the new name, Cherry Bomb, delights you as much as it does me. After a year of trying to be clever, and inventing silly names, I’ve landed on what simply gives me the most energy. I considered the title “Hello World” for months. But every time I’d say it, I’d sing the song Cherry Bomb by The Runaways on accident:

Hello world I'm your wild girl I'm your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb

Then I thought that cherry bomb is a pretty good analogy for nearly dying in a motorcycle accident as a young woman, which taught me endless valuable lessons. I imagined myself an exploded cherry to the guitar strums, like a cartoon. So, I’m happy there’s a bit of dark humor there.

Also, a cherry bomb is a firework, and I like the idea of sparking your heart with something…But mostly, it’s just fun, which is a huge point of this newsletter.

We’re on a weekly journey of discovering how to enjoy life and culture, just as much as how to analyze it or improve it. This is why I started with books in the first place! It’s entertaining and they inspire you to learn something or contemplate. Golly.

An enriched life is often times a balancing act between wild and safe. Somewhere in the middle of there is happiness. And maybe…we’re just…trying to live through that growth and happiness before we explode.

The book club is very much alive and the same, just with a new name. The Cherry Bomb Book Club, I think, is a fitting name for a club which reads primarily women and marginalized authors with a rebellious edge.

And you know, we’ll be reading like mad. :)
