Yes yes yes!! I want to hear more from other women who are embracing the changes and writing about this. The daily slog of anti aging that we are bombarded with needs to be drowned out by other voices and muses. Thank you for this! I have it saved to revisit and draw inspiration from.
grey is powerful!!! I love my youth and I already know I'm going to love old-age. I'm going to have long silver hair like my grandmom's and I'm going to bubble braid it. I loved your post so much!
Such beautiful portrayal of ageing. This post reminds me of my grandmother. She was a strong woman full of life and energy.
Also me and my siblings used to lovingly call her 'Amani' in Hindi language. Although the word has no particular meaning, and I don't have any recollection as to why we used to call her by this name, as it is not a hindi language term for Grandma.
But seeing your name and this post made me remember her.
i feel sometimes i have this bizarre fear of getting old (likely due to society always painting it so negatively) and i think i really needed this essay. thank you for writing! <3
I like the way you describe getting older. I really enjoy getting older. I want to embrace aging with time, to feel the marks it leaves on my body and soul, and the changes it brings.
‘Why should I fear time, when I’m desperate for more of it..’ GIRLLL YOU ARE PREACHING TO ME THIS MORNING!!!!! All of this was so beautifully put together
Omg I love this ❤️ Especially this line: "Why hadn’t I been preparing for my growth better? Or rather, why do I doubt I can handle it?"
I think society social media and even sometimes our mothers/matriarchs don't properly prepare us. Everything around us discourages us from aging. But your piece is a reminder that being an Auntie or old lady is a privilege! And I wanna be so blessed.
YES! I often admire people on social media with lines, especially when they are smile lines. As you said, getting those takes a lot of smiling. Wrinkles say more about a person that what they actually say. It's part of the non-verbal!
